Gender Bias in Schools Revisited
Posted in Other, Projects, SQL by admin
Gender Bias in Schools Revisited
Fifteen years ago, at the height of the focus on the alleged gender bias against girls in our educational system, I wrote an article for a professional newsletter that argued it was actually the other way around. Boys were at least equally disadvantaged in the classroom, if not more so. The key difference was outside the classroom where girls grew up in a society that didn’t value their achievements and business opportunity in the marketplace and on the athletic field. I took some flack for my point of view back then. Now, in 2008, it’s still a critical and misunderstood issue.
It is essential to put this issue of how boys perform in school into a historical perspective. Since the first public school opened in Boston in 1635 until the middle of the 20th century, the abundance of boys who did not fit the necessary mix of academic intelligence (learning best in a language-based environment) and who lacked a “successful-student-personality” (calm, organized, eager to please) were not a problem. Those boys generally left school by the eighth grade to go to work on their father’s farm, learn his trade/ business, or, as unions became dominant, took on apprentice roles and went on to good jobs. After WWII, everything began to change. Fathers began commuting to work, farms disappeared, unions gradually diminished, and all boys were now expected to be successful students.
Since this didn’t work for many boys, terms like “minimally brain damaged” and “hyperkinetic” became the labels to explain their failures (currently replaced by a multitude of labels such as Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Sensory Integration Disorder, Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities, Dyslexia, and Spectrum Disorders). For decades, many of these boys still managed to get through the system and find reasonable jobs waiting for them. But now they face the information revolution, where jobs are increasingly language-based. This has caused schools and parents to put even more pressure on all boys to succeed in school. Thus, the marked increase in concern about the many boys who still don’t fit our school system, which has never adapted its model to accommodate the varied learning styles not only associated with gender but across all children.
Many of you may be familiar with some of the many statistics that back up these concerns. It begins early. In elementary school boys are twice as likely to be identified with learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral problems, and to end up in special education. Young boys are 60% more likely to repeat a grade. By middle school, it’s not just the appearance of test score gaps that concern us. It’s data that shows boys skip school more often, get injured in fights much more often (though I do realize that girls hurt other girls in non-physical ways that can be even more devastating) and suicide rates, though small, are three times as likely in boys.
Then we get to high school. Boys are a third more likely to drop out and to be doing heavy drugs. Test scores and participation in advanced classes now significantly favor girls. These gaps are even more pronounced in our urban schools but be clear, they are not limited to poor, inner city children. Teenage boys dominate special classes and have significantly higher suicide rates. (The girls show their distress through high rates of eating disorders and rising rates of smoking.)
The pattern continues beyond high school. 58% of undergraduate students are now female and the higher ratio of women continues right on into graduate school. It won’t take more than another generation before boys and men can’t find a male to be their primary care physician.
Of course some will argue this matters little since women allegedly still have their glass ceiling and there is still a lack of equal pay for equal jobs. But within a decade or two, the shortage of reasonably educated men will change this. Some women note that females have suffered for centuries. They suggest males in our society will need to face up to this “new” problem and do something about it just the way women did in the latter part of the 20th century.
Well, part of the problem was, and still is, that both genders face issues and to remain a healthy productive society, a better understanding of boys and girls and the similarities and differences in how they develop needs to be better understood and addressed. From where I have been watching for the past forty years or so, our educational system is harmful to most children regardless of gender. So it is not my intention to slight the needs of girls in our schools or women in the work world by pausing to focus on some very significant issues facing males in our schools as well as society in general.
It has been well documented that boys develop more slowly in certain aspects of their neurology. In general, (there are always exceptions to stereotypes) young girls are more verbal, more able to sit still, and learn to read more quickly. This substantially increases their likelihood of immediate success in a school system that places early emphasis on all these skills. Given the heightened anxiety of today’s parents about their children’s early academic success determining life success, preschools have become increasingly skills oriented, starting the frustration for boys at even earlier ages. Meanwhile, as teachers are increasingly forced to teach to statewide tests, they lose the flexibility to teach in more creative ways that would benefit both genders. But it especially increases the challenges boys have to face.
While more research is needed and new teaching strategies need to evolve, I think there are a couple of additional factors that play a key role in making the life of boys particularly disadvantaged at this time in our society. Boys lack male role models for academic learning and developing a strong, positive sense of their masculinity. In addition, young boys have dramatically lost their home business opportunity to be physically active and to use social play as a way to explore and understand the world they live in.
Mothers, and other women, are the primary caretakers of young children. Boys are then handed off to female teachers for the next several years. Rarely do boys have the opportunity to observe and model their academic behavior after a same sex adult. But it also works the other way. Female teachers have less tolerance for a bit of chaos and roughhousing. I recall from my early days as a psychologist when I was in charge of a number of inner city preschools. When I would visit the classes, it would turn in to king of the hill battles and kids climbing all over me. My female teachers understood the importance of this and didn’t mind it one bit.
But, over the years, when I have consulted with preschools and elementary schools, teachers are more concerned with the possibility of someone getting hurt (some of which reflects our increasing litigious society) and the sense of things getting out of control than recognizing the importance of this high energy activity for boys (and many girls as well). I have watched too many female teachers reprimanding boys for behavior that should be considered normal, slightly aggressive, overactive male behavior. It should be built in to the program, not frowned upon. Meanwhile, recess and phys ed classes are being decreased so teachers have more time to raise those classroom test scores, making it even worse for boys. It doesn’t do anything for the epidemic of obesity either!
Boys (and many girls) need to be allowed to run free, ride their bikes around town, play for hours outside, wander into the woods and climb trees, bring home turtles, frogs, and bugs. Frightened parents, even in more advantaged communities, allow fear of the unlikely (stranger abduction, pedophiles) to keep boys inside. Girls, too. Now parents are paying the price of children who explore the world via the internet and are realizing this may be more risky than letting them actually leave the house!
Meanwhile, we need more male teachers. We need more men coming in to visit the elementary classrooms. We also need more Big Brothers. The problem is not just the lack of men in the school life of our boys. Between high rates of divorce and of young, poor fathers abandoning their children, it is estimated that an astonishing 40% of our boys are growing up without a father in their lives. Being a minority male in our inner cities means you are more likely to end up in jail or dead by 21 than graduating high school, no less going to college.
We need to offer boys and girls an education that addresses the total child, not just the academic skill part. We need to design middle schools and high schools that offer many pathways to earning a reasonable living and have more men involved right from the beginning. We need longer school days if a significant part of that time can be spent playing and exercising. We need to identify each child’s strengths, regardless of gender, and allow that child to use those strengths to be productive in school in a variety of acceptable ways, not just a few narrow ways that relegate most children to feeling inadequate.
Parents have an important role in addressing this problem. One thing is to err on the side of safety and regardless of how mature your son seems to be, don’t make him one of the youngest in his class. Second, too often parents will present to me a picture of a son whom they describe as lovable and caring, sensitive, having good friends and being terrific with young children. But they are distressed because he is very inconsistent in his school performance, only seems to work at what interests him, and resists doing homework because he would rather play. This is a great young boy with the kind of values and spirit that we hope he’ll continue to demonstrate when he’s a man. He might make a great teacher some day! We need parents to focus more on their child’s successes and less on their perceived shortcomings, especially with their sons. Parents must be more conscious of their own gender bias.
In addition, the very behaviors and attitudes which cause many boys to under perform in school serve them well in the real world. High energy, totally absorbed by only what strongly interests them, challenging the rules, and having strong leadership skills often are the foundation for successful entrepreneurs and great innovators in many spheres of life. Parents and educators need to be able to identify that potential and not destroy the drive and self-confidence of these “academically underachieving” boys before they get a chance to prove themselves in the real world.
And just for emphasis, I want to state again, we need boys to have meaningful relationships with men from birth on.

A Good Cover Letter Can Make the Difference!
Every hiring manager wants to receive a good cover letter that will lead him or her to the job candidate who will fill the job opening. What do good cover letters include? Clear, positive, and informative writing that states specific details about the job hunter’s experience, education, and qualifications for the job opening. It is friendly in tone, yet professional, not wasting words on personal trivia, such as your golf score, but focusing on events and duties that show your ability to become an asset to the company. Also, an employer expects to be asked for an interview, so be sure to make that request and provide your contact information in a good cover letter.

Pressure, Are You Applying Enough to Attain Your Financial Freedom
Posted in News, Other, Projects by admin
Pressure, Are You Applying Enough to Attain Your Financial Freedom
One of the things that I have discovered in my journey of personal development is that I must make the choice to step into success or I will just stand in failure. I find that it is necessary to apply pressure to myself in order to move forward and take those steps into success. Do you apply pressure to yourself? Let me ask you a question: do you wait until the last minute to finish a task, project or chore? Are you one of those people who accomplish 70% of the project in the last 10% of the time?’
If you said yes to either of those questions then you are applying pressure to yourself. Some of us work better by doing little bits and pieces of the project, task or chore as we go. Others work much better when they are under the gun. When they know they ‘gotta get it done’, ‘it’s due tomorrow’, ‘it’s due in two hours’.. Some people are much better when they are applying that pressure to themselves.
We need to be able to recognize where we fall on that scale and realize how best we react because if we don’t apply any pressure at all to ourselves then we are we are not going to learn, grow and step up into the success that we want in our lives. We all want success in our lives, whether it is emotionally, in relationships, with our family, in our home business, or with our finances. We all want some form of success in our life, if not in ALL of these areas!
Many times, we human beings waste time feeling guilty. By doing this we are wasting our own time and energy. When we get to the point of the deadline for that project, task or chore and we’re feeling so guilty - ‘oh why didn’t I do something sooner? I should have spent more time! Why did I spend my time on that thing and not get this project started?’ As human beings need to learn that it is okay and to recognize that’s how we cope best, we work best under pressure. So stop feeling guilty about it! Stop beating yourself up, because when we stop beating ourselves up and wasting energy on the guilt, we have more time and more energy to invest in the project, chore or task we want to complete.
The other thing that we do, in order to not apply the pressure, is we hide behind our responsibilities. I used to do this so well - hide behind my responsibilities. Many times when I have talked to people about a home based business opportunity, they say ‘oh, well I don’t have the time to do something like that. I am so busy! I have my family. I have my job. I have my charities. I have my hobbies.’ We all have those different responsibilities in our life. But what we need to decide is ‘Is this project/task/business something that I really want to do or rather is this task/business/project going to create a result that I want. You have to begin by deciding what result you want in your life and then arrange your time based on achieving those results. Ask yourself : ‘Are there things I could rearrange or even drop all together to make time to do this?’
Are you applying the pressure to your own life to do what it is you really want to do? Sometimes those tasks or chores are not really things that we want to do, but we want that specific end result so we do them. We want our relationships to work well. We want our financial freedom. We want to be able to take our family to Disneyland. We want that specific end result, the successful life. Today I just assisted my husband in setting up his financial filing system, I sure did not want to spend time doing it, however I want the end result!! The end result of the nice clean, tidy organized paperwork resulting in his taxes being completed on time. I put the pressure on myself, assisted him and now I am very glad I did. Not only did the paperwork issue get better but so did our relationship because my husband felt much supported.
We need to focus on the results we want instead of hiding behind the excuses of ‘I don’t have the time,I’ve got to go to work, I’ve got to take my daughter to soccer. I have got to take my dog to the vet’. Yes, those are all things that need to be done. However when we decide that achieving a certain task/chore/business is a priority that we could rearrange our time or give up some unnecessary activities to free up time if we really wanted to. If we really want that result, we could get it done, it just takes a decision. We will then stop investing in the guilt. we will stop hiding behind the responsibilities and figure out a way to make it happen.
There is a universal law, like the law of gravity called the Law of Growth;. In order to exist, we need to grow. How we grow is our choice. What seeds do we want to plant? Do we want to plant the seeds of not getting something done? Or do we want the seeds of success habits, applying the pressure and stepping into the successful life that we know we deserve. We all deserve a successful life! Ask yourself “am I applying the correct pressure on myself to create my successful life?” I hope you are!

Wheelchairs, walkers, and canes: what does Medicare pay for, and who benefits
Medicare’s role in the distribution of mobility-related assistive technology has not been well documented, yet rapid growth and regional variation in spending, and concerns over “in-the-home” coverage criteria, highlight the need for facts. Using the 2001 Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey, we find that 6.2 percent percent of beneficiaries obtained mobility assistive technology under the Medicare durable medical equipment (DME) benefit. These beneficiaries were disproportionately poor, disabled, and users of both acute and postacute services. Average per item spending ranged from $52 for canes to $6,208 for power wheelchairs and handicap scooters. Among beneficiaries who acquired such technology through the DME benefit, these devices comprised just 2 percent of overall Medicare spending.

The Minimum
All building business credit card companies have a minimum payment on your card, which is simply the lowest amount of money the business line of credit card company allows you to pay them back. A minimum payment is usually about 2 percent of your debt; a measly amount, which seems pretty manageable when you think of how little 2 percent is of a monthly bill.

A franchise or business opportunity seller must give you a detailed disclosure document at least 10 business days before you pay any money or legally commit yourself to a purchase. Make sure you get this disclosure document before you agree to invest. Use the disclosures in this document to compare business options or simply for information. The disclosure document includes:
Names, addresses, and telephone numbers of at least 10 previous purchasers who live closest to you.

Effect of a pushrim-activated power-assist wheelchair on the functional capabilities of persons with tetraplegia
OBJECTIVES: To test the differences between a pushrim-activated medicare power wheelchairs and a traditional manual wheelchair while performing common driving activities and to assess their relative merits for people with tetraplegia. DESIGN: Repeated measures. SETTING: An activities of daily living (ADL) laboratory within a rehabilitation research center. PARTICIPANTS: Fifteen full-time manual wheelchair users with tetraplegia due to a spinal cord injury. INTERVENTIONS: Participants propelled both their own manual wheelchairs and a PAPAW 3 times over an ADL course. The order in which the 2 different wheelchairs were presented to the participants was randomized. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Each participant’s heart rate was monitored throughout testing by a digital, wireless heart-rate monitor. Time to complete the course was recorded, and participants were surveyed with a visual analog scale after the first, third, fourth, and sixth trials to determine the ease of completing each obstacle and their ergonomic preferences between the 2 wheelchairs. Participants also were observed throughout the trials to determine how much assistance they needed to complete each obstacle course. RESULTS: After using a Bonferroni adjustment, 4 obstacles (carpet, dimple strips, up a ramp, up a curb cut) were rated as being significantly easier ( P <.001) to complete when using the PAPAW. Participants also showed a significant decrease in mean heart rate throughout all 3 trials ( P =.015, P =.001, P =.003, respectively) when using a PAPAW. The amount of assistance needed by participants, the responses to ergonomic questions, and the overall time to complete the ADL course did not differ significantly between the 2 power wheelchairs. CONCLUSIONS: For subjects with tetraplegia, PAPAWs have the potential to improve functional capabilities during certain ADLs, especially when propelling up ramps, over uneven surfaces, and over thick carpet.

best home businesses from home Misconceptions
In my best home businesses from home coaching sessions, I have
found that many people start their best home businesses from homees based on misconceptions,
myths, and half truths.
They are being told that they can sign up for a few programs, build a site around those topics,
slap the banners and links on their site, then sit back and collect the money - never having to
work again.
Wrong.
The truth of the matter is that there are more people who fail at their best home businesses
from homees, than people who actually succeed. href=http://www.starscapes.com>Starscapes best home business to start
These people are not told that they will actually have to work twice as hard at their
traditional job. They are not told about the hours and hours of marketing time that they will
put in. They usually are not even told by the affiliate managers how to market the products or
their websites.
They have up lines that are inactive or flat out ignore them. They don’t have the first clue as
to how to build a downline, much less how to offer support to their downline. They don’t
understand conversion rates or the concept of PPC (pay per click) programs.
However, they truly believe what they have been told - They believe that they can get rich by
doing absolutely nothing. These are otherwise intelligent people. Why would they believe this?
They believe because they want to believe. Because they see it everyday, everywhere on the
Internet. They are told that it is possible. They not only want to believe it - for their own
reasons, they need to believe it.
Unfortunately, it is my job to tell them the truth and then they feel let down. By the time a
client comes to me for help, they are already a bit disillusioned. Since initial clients
usually begin by paying for one session at a time, I go ahead and burst their bubble during the
first session. I don’t want them to spend money that they don’t have on an idea that won’t
work.
After the first session, the client is left to make a decision. They either have to do what it
takes to make their business a success, toss the idea out the window, or keep doing exactly
what they have been doing with the exact same results (or lack of results as the case may be).
Less than half are willing to do what it takes to succeed. The rest toss the idea out the
window. I’ve never had a client who decided to keep doing what they had been doing.
I do have a point. My point is that if you are an affiliate manager, or if you have a downline,
be honest. Tell your affiliates and downlines the truth. Tell them upfront what will be
required of them. Be honest about possible earnings, and be honest about your own earnings.
After being honest, “look around” to see who is still interested in your business. I promise,
there will still be people interested - people willing to put forth the effort that is
required. These are the people that you want to invest your time in.
Once you know who is serious about the business, work with them closely. Offer them all of the
support you can possibly offer. Make suggestions to help them improve their site. Put together
marketing packages and ideas for them. Start a forum for your downline, and be active in that
forum. If you haven’t heard from them in a while, send them an email or a card and ask them if
everything is okay. The more successful your downline is, the more successful you are.

Other factors to consider
The decision to go into business is based on a thorough study of factors such as the potential market, sales promotion and advertising, location, making the product or setting up the service, delivery of the product and profit potential. Consultation with a small home business expert such as a Small Business Administration Service Corps of Retired Executives Association (SCORE) counselor or the Small business opportunity Development Center (SBDC) staff (1-800-445-7232) will help you decide if the particular small business would be feasible and help find answers to the following and other related questions: How likely is it that the business will be profitable? What is the competition? Is there a long-time need for the product or service, or is it a fad-type item? Are you an expert in producing the product or service?

The influence of crank length and cadence on mechanical efficiency in hand cycling
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of crank length and cadence on mechanical efficiency in hand cycling. Eight wheelchair dependent, high performance athletes completed four 4-min submaximal exercise bouts at a constant medicare power wheelchairs output of 90 W over the different experimental conditions (crank length, pedal rate) using a sports handicap scooters (Draft, Godmanchester, UK). Two different crank lengths (180 and 220 mm) were tested at two different cadences (70 and 85 rev min(-1)) using the synchronous mode of cranking. Physiological measures of oxygen uptake Formula: see text minute ventilation, blood lactate (BLa), heart rate (HR), rate of perceived exertion (RPE) were recorded, gross (GE) and net (NE) efficiency were calculated. A two-way ANOVA with repeated measures was applied to determine the effects of crank length, cadence and their interaction on these physiological measures. Both GE and NE were significantly higher and Formula: see text significantly lower for the 180 mm crank (P < 0.05). No significant main effect was found for cadence on the physiological measures (P > 0.05). Likewise, no interactions between crank length and pedal rate were found. There was however, a trend observed with HR and BLa often lower with the 180 mm crank, indicating lower physiological stress. The RPE data supported this finding, with a tendency for lower ratings with the 180 mm crank (9 +/- 2 vs. 10 +/- 3). The short crank length when used at 85 rev min(-1) was found to be the most efficient (GE 21.4 +/- 3.1%). In conclusion, crank length has a significant effect on ME in hand cycling. A shorter crank length of 180 mm was found to be more efficient than the 220 mm, regardless of pedal rate during hand cycling

Now, his victory represents obvious change (his favorite campaign slogan), but more importantly, his defeat of Senator John McCain, signaled that the status quo was no longer acceptable in lieu of the failure of well known US financial institution such as AIG, Lehman Brothers, Freddie Mack, Washington Mutual Bank. In essence the American people sent the message, “We want change in the US Economy. Now, are you receptive to change as an entrepreneur?
Although, change is a necessary component of long-term success people still tend to dislike and avoid it, because it represents a disruption in the way things traditionally have been conducted. Needless to say, people like comfortability and familiarity, because it is something they know and most importantly can control so as to attain a desired outcome they favor. Obviously, the change in the current US Economy represents a situation where people feel they have no control and definitely are uncomfortable about their financial future. So what’s the solution for the average person who worries about his/her 401K and other financial investment portfolio? Wait a minute; the previous question is irrelevant, because everyone with any kind of investment has already lost significant value in his or her portfolio due to the inter-connectivity of the global financial markets and economies.
Okay, the past is the past, what’s the plan for today and the future for long-term growth? Well, entrepreneurs historically have always been the most adaptable people around because they recognize that success in any situation requires adjustment or change to maximize their investment. The introduction of the Internet in the early 1990’s illustrates a period of global economic change for businesses and it is safe to say people adapted or changed so as to expand not only their business, but also their knowledge base, which is the true engine of wealth-generation within any business. Will you do the same during the current economic time? Will you embrace change or enter the MLM Cemetery?
Now, the Internet or the Information Super Highway helped expand Starscapes.com business opportunity globally and provided millions of people the opportunity to become entrepreneurs. In essence the global economy changed for the better with the advancement of Internet related technology and resources. I can personally, attest to the change in my lifestyle due to the Internet and its access to online communities, leads, lead-generation resources and search engines like Alta Vista or Google. However, the current economic times are less appealing despite, the easy access to the advancement and easy access to Internet-related technology resources that in the past generated massive income for millions of people. So, how do solve your own economic challenges?
Here’s a recommendation that the wealthy always use change your mindset. The best way to solve a problem is to seek a solution and if, it requires a change in your pattern of thinking then, do it so as to attain a desirable result. Now, allow me to offer you the business opportunity to change your circumstances to a win-win situation with Worldprofit.com Ready to embrace change and learn from a solid business model, that provides dealer’s access to The Global Monitor Network, which consists of over 60 live representatives, who close sales for dealers 24/7. The Sky Is The limit When You Are Considering Your Own Business
If you are tired of working under someone else and feel that you have what it takes to make your own way, then you may want to think about starting your own home business. There are so many things that are possible for you to do in regards to a small home based company, that it may take some time for you to decide what it is that you want to do. When you do come to a decision however, you will be in a position where you are in control of not only your finances but your future as well. This can be the best thing that has ever happened to you, or it can be a virtual nightmare it is entirely up to your will to succeed.
Working With People
If you feel that you have what it takes to deal with people on a daily basis, the perhaps your own business should consist of you selling things to the general public from your home. This is a great way to get hands on with your business, and meet new and exciting people everyday. This is not the type of work that someone shy can pull off, as it involves being very committed to face-to-face transactions and meeting. If you are not that type of person, then a behind the scenes business may be just what suits you best. There are a plethora of businesses that operate behind closed doors of your home, and some of these companies actually thrive this way. With business opportunity such as Ebay stores, and small appliance or computer repairs, there are opportunities for just about anyone that does not want their face in the limelight.
Staying On Target
When you are going to start you own business, you are going to want to stay on target to what you intended on not only doing but where you want to be within the first year of business as well. Taking on more than you can handle while you are still a young company is not good for your self-expectations or your business either. Taking the business slow and steady will help you build steam for the long haul and you will easily increase your odds at success with the young company. You will find that you make fewer mistakes within the first years as well if you elect to take things slow and dedicated.
New Doors Are Opening
When you are running your own business, you will soon find that through your success there will be new doors opening up for you. This can be in regards to your business, and it can also include your personal affairs as well. When the company you started on your own starts to thrive, so too does the level of confidence that will radiate from you and others will quickly see it as well. This can help you with your business, and it can give you the opportunity to obtain new work as well.

How I saw the world

How I saw the world
I was working a regular nine to five job and barely making ends meet just a year ago. I knew that I wanted to break free of the treadmill I was on but I just didn’t know how. Finally I met a person who changed my life and allowed all of my dreams to come true.
I was working a regular nine to five job and barely making ends meet just a couple of years ago. I desperately wanted to get off of the daily treadmill I was on but I just didn’t know how. Finally I met a person who changed my life and allowed all of my dreams to come true.
I was playing around on the internet looking for nothing in particular when I saw an ad for Global Resorts Network. It sounded interesting so I looked into it further. What I found was not only a resort network that gives great discounts on travel but it is also home business opportunity. The startup cost was over $2000 which was a real sacrifice for me. Fortunately I was able to come up with the money and I am so glad I did.
Now I go on week long trips every few months. I have experienced so much that I thought I would miss out on due to the high cost of travel and my limited income. I have surfed in Hawaii, gone skiing in Colorado, and spent evenings under the desert sky in Arizona.
If you want to make money online with your own internet home business opportunity and you love to travel this could be the business opportunity for you as well. I get great discounts on travel and I make enough money to be able to take advantage of them. That means that I travel all the time.
I don’t want to mislead you into thinking that this travel business opportunity is so easy that I no longer need to work. This is network marketing so it requires daily attention. I have set my home business up online which allows me to generate qualified leads that I can then turn into sales. Both generating the leads and making the sale are hard work. But like all hard work I see a reward in the end.
The Global resorts network is 50 years old and has creating business opportunities for thousands of sales people. If you want a home based business, you love to travel and you are great at sales this is a winning opportunity for you. I think you will be surprised at the amount of money you can make.

Searching for Financing
Posted in Blog, SQL, Web by admin
Searching for Financing
Inadequate capital is the cause of many best home businesses from
home failures even though most home-based businesses require a limited amount of start-up
money. There are several sources to consider when looking for financing for your business. But
first you need to consider how much money you are going to need. Consider all of the expenses
of starting up your business and add on at least three months of operating costs. Do a cash
flow analysis as given in Appendix I (6KB PDF) to determine capital needs. The SBDC
(1-800-455-7232) can assist you with developing and completing your cash flows. When you know
what you need, start looking for sources of capital. Experienced business owners recommend that
at least half, if not more, of your best home business to start
investment should come from personal savings. This can include profit shares or early
retirement funds, real estate equity loans, cash-value insurance policies, or credit card
advances. (Note: credit card interest rates may be very high compared to other sources of
capital.) If you do not have enough startup money, consider borrowing from friends and
relatives who believe in you and your business plan. But remember to do it on a business-like
basis by writing up a loan agreement that specifies the amount borrowed, the length of the loan
period, the interest rate, schedule of payments, and any collateral.
Banks are sometimes reluctant to lend to owners of new businesses because the business has no
background of proven success. If you are persistent, have a good business plan, demonstrate
through market research that there is a market for your product or service, and can prove your
worthiness as a business owner, you will find many ways to finance your business. Possible loan
sources include commercial finance companies and savings and loan associations. Following are
other sources for loans:

IT Cover Letters Are IT!!
Want to get into Internet technology? If so you’ll need to write a cover letter. You can do it. Be sure to let the hiring manager know what you’re good at. For example, mention the web technologies you’re familiar with, such as Perl, CGI, PHP. Potential employers are looking for people like you but they won’t know about you unless you tell them. IT cover letters are the tools that introduce you to the people who can get you interviewed and then hired. The more specific you are regarding your experience, training, and expertise, the more you’ll be considered for the opening available. Find IT cover letter samples on the Internetwhere elseand then create your own based on what you find.

Charge Cards
Western Union began issuing charge cards to its frequent customers in 1914. However, the actual concept of using a business line of credit card for paying merchants was invented by Ralph Schneider and Frank X. Macnamara in 1950. Diners Club was the first to make the general purpose building business credit card followed by American Express.

Make a Case For a Promotion in a Promotion Cover Letter
Are you ready to move up in the company you work for? Then a great tool might be a promotion cover letter. Approach your supervisor or boss with a focused and clear letter written in a friendly manner, that outlines in detail why you’d be the ideal candidate for a promotion. For example, suppose you’re a sales rep and there is an opening in the company for a sales manager. With your experience and expertise you could easily step into this position. Make a case for that move in a well-written promotion cover letter which you can present to your superior. All promotion cover letters should focus more on what you can do for the company than what it can do for you.

Design and simulation of a pneumatic, stored-energy, hybrid orthosis for gait restoration

Design and simulation of a pneumatic, stored-energy, hybrid orthosis for gait restoration
Loss of mobility due to lower limb paralysis is a common result of thoracic level spinal cord injury. Functional electrical stimulation (FES) can restore primitive gait in the vicinity of a wheelchair by using handicap scooters stimulation to generate muscle contractions. A new concept for FES-assisted gait is presented that combines electrical stimulation with an orthosis that contains a fluid power system to store and transfer energy during the gait cycle and medical scooters. The energy storage orthosis (ESO) can be driven through a complete gait cycle using only stimulation of the quadriceps muscles. The conceptual design of the ESO was completed and implemented in a dynamic simulation model and in a benchtop prototype for engineering measurements. No studies were conducted with human subjects. The results demonstrate the potential of the ESO concept for a feasible gait-assist system and the validity of the simulation model as a means for designing the system.

Starting A Home Based Business Requires A Realistic Outlook

Starting A Home Based Business Requires A Realistic Outlook
Many people that decide to start a home based business opportunity are destined to fail because their motivation and expectations are completely unrealistic.
Over the years I have helped thousands of people start up their own Starscapes.com business opportunity on the the Internet and I have come to recognize two of the most important factors for identifying people that should NOT attempt to start a home based business.
If a prospective entrepreneur says something like…
“I’m broke and need to make some money…fast!”
or,
“I want to start a home business, but I don’t want to spend anything on it until after I start earning some money.”
…it is certain that they need a “reality check” and should not attempt to start a home business under either of those conditions. I refer to these two comments as the “death sentences” for starting a home based business.
Almost equally important is the need to have realistic economic expectations when undertaking a home based business. There is no magic here folks. A home based business provides many rewards such as working in the comfort of your own home, avoiding a stressful commute, being your own boss, setting your own hours, no dress code, etc., etc., but anyone that is also expecting “instant riches” is sadly mistaken.
There are a tremendous number of home business and work at home opportunities offered on the Internet. Many of these are all hype and try to convince you that it doesn’t take any effort and that you will be making huge amounts of money in very little time (you know, stuff like…”you will be making $5,000 per week, and more, in just a few weeks!”). You should avoid these so called “opportunities” like the plague…if they were for real everyone would be doing it.
Study the opportunities carefully and select the home business opportunity that seems to fit your own particular style or talents. What is a good choice for one person may be a very poor fit for someone else. The common thread that applies to everyone is that you must be “for real” (as indicated above) and the business opportunity itself must be “for real”.

Learning About Make Money At Home Now
Any make money at home now business opportunity worth considering will either have a track record that you can investigate and evaluate or it will have a clear statement of the plan, the potential, and the up-front costs.
Before investing any time or money in a specific make money at home now business, there are some questions you should consider first.
More Info on Make Money at Home Now
How long has the business opportunity been in home business? Before investing time and money in marketing an make money at home now opportunity, it is important to determine how long it has been operating.
If it is a new concept that has not been proven in the marketplace, you have no assurance that it will even work.
Does the company have a fixed address and phone number? This may seem obvious to you, but the fact is, thousands of companies operate with nothing more than a website and an email address.
Many of them are here today and gone tomorrow. Make sure the business you intend to deal with has a fixed address, physical location, and established phone number.
Does the make money at home now business have some successful members you can talk to? Most business opportunities will show you testimonials. But these are often untrustworthy.
They could even be completely fabricated. Ask the owner of the business for names of real people you can talk to. Call them on the telephone and ask them to share their experiences with the program.
This will not only provide you with valuable first-hand information about the program, but it will give you a list of advisors who might be willing to help you along the way.
How much initial investment is required? In many cases a proven make money at home now business with a successful track record will involve some kind of initial investment.
You should not assume that a business opportunity that is free to join is a better investment. Usually a free-to-join business will involve other costs such as marketing and advertising fees. Just keep in mind that nobody gives away opportunities for free.
What you have to determine is whether a specific make money at home now business has a successful track record, is managed by honest people and offers you a realistic chance of actually making some money. These are the things you must weigh against the entry costs.
What is the realistic income potential of the business? Have a careful look at the numbers and projections provided by the business opportunity. Then talk with actual members who are using the program to determine if they have been able to turn those numbers into reality.
Are there extra fees such as yearly or monthly subscription fees, shipping costs, or minimum purchase requirements? Make sure to get a detailed list of all the fees involved in operating the new business. These things may not seem significant now, but they can easily eat into your profits later.
How much control of your new business will you have? Be clear on who owns the business, and who controls the way it is developed and marketed. You may want to diversify your product offerings in order to avoid being at the mercy of a “head office.

Advantages and disadvantages
Posted in Blog, SQL, Web by admin
Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages of a home based business opportunity include having a flexible schedule; integration of family and work responsibilities; less involvement with others in a regular work environment, such as power struggles and red tape; no commuting time (unless you travel to a customer’s home or place of business); control of your own personal environment (temperature, light, work breaks, etc); self-determination and independence; increasing personal fulfillment; seeking and setting personal goals; enhancing creativity; and remaining in a community or moving with a spouse to a new community even when jobs are scarce or not available.
Disadvantages of a home business opportunity include needing to know a lot of information to operate a business successfully; the risk involved in operating a business; conflict in ownership of time (When is it my “own” time and when is “business” time?); lack of guaranteed employee fringe benefits; many competing roles and responsibilities (producer, promoter, bill collector, customer service representative); lack of job security; loss of home space use by family; interruptions; lack of self-discipline; little opportunity to delegate tasks to others; long hard hours, and legal requirements including zoning regulations. Being committed to a business may mean lack of freedom to do other things and to go as you please.

A prototype power assist wheelchair that provides for obstacle detection and avoidance for those with visual impairments
BACKGROUND: Almost 10% of all individuals who are legally blind also have a mobility impairment. The majority of these individuals are dependent on others for mobility. The Smart Power Assistance Module (SPAM) for manual wheelchairs is being developed to provide independent mobility for this population. METHODS: A prototype of the SPAM has been developed using Yamaha JWII power assist hubs, sonar and infrared rangefinders, and a microprocessor. The prototype limits the user to moving straight forward, straight backward, or turning in place, and increases the resistance of the wheels based on the proximity of obstacles. The result is haptic feedback to the user regarding the environment surrounding the medicare power wheelchairs. RESULTS: The prototype has been evaluated with four blindfolded able-bodied users and one individual who is blind but not mobility impaired. For all individuals, the prototype reduced the number of collisions on a simple navigation task. CONCLUSION: The prototype demonstrates the feasibility of providing navigation assistance to manual wheelchair users and medical scooters, but several shortcomings of the system were identified to be addressed in a second generation prototype.

Make Money on the Internet with these Niche Marketing Ideas
One reason so many people love working from home is they can make money on the Internet doing what they love most. Many home business opportunity are started on niche ideas that were spawned by a special skill or a favorite hobby of a mom, dad or single person. Of course, the key is to find a niche market you can target easily without much stiff competition. Even in markets that have a lot of competition, a niche business can work well if you use certain marketing techniques such as keyword article marketing, press releases, link exchanges, contextual advertising, pay-per-click, etc.
So what makes a niche Starscapes business opportunity so wonderful? Its simplicity! Owning a niche business means focusing on one particular type of product or service instead of many. Some will recommend that you diversify your business if you want to make money on the Internet. To diversify, however, means to concentrate on several different business opportunities, hoping that at least one of them will succeed. The problem you may run into is having too many tasks at hand and not enough time to handle them all. Instead of succeeding at one of your businesses, you might end up not succeeding at all.
With a niche business, you can keep your focus in one area of interest. This means you can put all your energy into promotions, customer service, and website design for this one venture. You can even add other products or services along the way that are related to your business. For instance, if you own a gift website, then adding items such as holiday greeting cards, creative wrapping paper and accessories, and maybe even special delivery services would make sense. These are all related to your core niche business and won’t necessarily cause you to abandon your “first love!”
How to Discover Your Niche Business Opportunity
Probably the most difficult task when it comes to making money online is finding that niche business that’s just right for you. You might think, “Hey… I don’t have any special skills or interests.” If that were true, you’d probably live in a plain white-walled room with no television or phone! Everyone is interested in something - even if it seems unimportant.
Do you have a favorite sport or hobby? What about baseball, football, golf, soccer, bowling, hunting or fishing? Do you love to sew quilts or make homemade gift baskets? Are you into computers, electronic games, or family board games? Do you enjoy cooking, cleaning or simply raising your children? Do you love to sing or play a musical instrument?
If you read through the list above, I’m sure something will come to mind that you enjoy doing at work or in your spare time. You might be surprised to learn that all the fun “activities” mentioned above have become a lucrative source of home based business income for thousands of people just like you! There are stay-home moms who make a living selling e-books with tips about child rearing, cooking, sewing or cleaning. There are men who sell e-books about their favorite sport or hobby along with related products. You can easily find e-books about fishing, hunting, and every sport imaginable - all with a price of $19.95 or greater.
Look online to see how many home based business websites you can find related to playing games and strategies for PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox or Nintendo systems. Have you noticed the parade of websites related to selling musical instruments or offering singing tips? Not to mention the many affiliate opportunities available today in which you promote the products of various companies to receive a commission.
All these offer an extraordinary opportunity to make money on the Internet - right from your own home computer. With a little Internet marketing know-how and lots of enthusiasm, you too can start to make money online while following your passions.
Fortunately, there is an array of e-books available that were written by folks just like you who have made their way on the road to online success. By reading after successful home business owners, you can learn their secrets and apply their methods using your own niche ideas. Armed with their advice, you can make money on the Internet without wasting time or money. Get started today with your very own niche business!
